We Do Not Have a Functioning CDC Right Now

This is bullshit:

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday abruptly reverted to its previous guidance about how coronavirus is transmitted, removing language about airborne transmission it had posted just days earlier.

"A draft version of proposed changes to these recommendations was posted in error to the agency's official website. CDC is currently updating its recommendations regarding airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19). Once this process has been completed, the update language will be posted," Jason McDonald, a CDC spokesman, said in a response emailed to CNN.

The guidance had been quietly updated on Friday, according to the CDC's website. CNN was first to report the change on Sunday. The CDC responded to CNN just before noon on Monday to say it was reverting to the previous guidance.

Despite several studies that have shown the novel coronavirus can spread through small particles in the air, the CDC page now says that Covid-19 is thought to spread mainly between people in close contact -- about 6 feet -- and "through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks." This is the same language it posted months ago.

There is no way to say this without sounding shrill. The CDC has stopped functioning as an agency. It is now an arm of the Trump Re-Election Campaign. It is no longer a Federal agency devoted to protecting the American people or using science to advance our understanding of diseases.

People need to start walking out the door. I understand that there are no more whistleblower protections in place. Hell, there aren't many Inspectors General left either. But, damn. We are in a terrible place right now and people are dying.

What is an Employee?

This is a really interesting development in the debate over who is considered an "employee" and who is considered an expendable, disposable human being:
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced Tuesday that she would file a lawsuit against Uber and Lyft, claiming that the companies have been improperly misclassifying their drivers as contractors rather than employees to save millions of dollars in compensation.
“We’re suing because these companies have built their billion-dollar business that misclassifies their drivers as contractors,” she said during a morning news conference conducted on Zoom.

The complaint, seeking a declaratory judgment, was submitted to Massachusetts Superior Court in Suffolk County.
Healey said that these companies do not pay unemployment or workers' compensation benefits, helping them save millions of dollars annually.
“Taxpayers and other companies are essentially paying when Uber and Lyft misclassifies workers,” she said. “The bottom line is that Uber and Lyft have gotten a free ride for far too long.”
If you're barely paying people a living wage and sticking taxpayers with the cost of providing health care, unemployment insurance, and workers compensation then you're an evil corporation. Wal-Mart, for example, has always deliberately underpaid their workers and skated by on the idea that SNAP benefits will be there to bridge the gap between extreme poverty and starvation.

A fundamental redesign of the system of work starts with deciding who gets to be a worker and who gets to profit from that work. Any discussion of solving America's problems that does not include a course correction on how we compensate workers is foolish.

That's Doctor Fauci to You

Incredible as it may seem, the White House is attacking Dr. Anthony Fauci instead of taking steps to save the lives of the American people:
CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta shared insight Monday morning into how Dr. Anthony Fauci — the visible face of the White House's coronavirus task force — has been feeling since the White House tried to discredit him.
Asked by "New Day" anchor John Berman about reports Fauci will be at the White House later on Monday, Gupta responded, "I think he wants to stick around. I think he's feeling a little beaten up by all this — I think there's no question about it — but he has seen a lot of support."
Gupta, who speaks regularly to Fauci, continued, "Again, we are learning as we go along here. Nobody knew everything from the very start, including Dr. Fauci, but that's very different than saying the guy was intentionally wrong or somehow misleading in some way, which seemed to be the suggestion."
Any expertise or credibility that threatens Trump's reign of error must be destroyed, apparently. Anyone who has the experience and knowledge to keep the American people safe and stop the spread of the pandemic is a political "threat" to Trump and this should be exposed for what it is by the media--an admission of incompetence and guilt and nothing more.

Don't Take Trump's Advice

Trump is literally killing people, and there's no way to stop him:
US President Donald Trump claimed at a White House briefing last week that the Food and Drug Administration had approved the "very powerful" drug chloroquine to treat coronavirus.
"It's shown very encouraging -- very, very encouraging early results. And we're going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately. And that's where the FDA has been so great. They -- they've gone through the approval process; it's been approved. And they did it -- they took it down from many, many months to immediate. So we're going to be able to make that drug available by prescription or states," Trump said.
He added: "Normally the FDA would take a long time to approve something like that, and it's -- it was approved very, very quickly and it's now approved, by prescription."
However, the FDA after the briefing issued a statement saying it had not approved the drug for use against Covid-19 and is still studying its effectiveness against the disease.
We all know that there was a man in Washington State who died after using it, and his wife is in critical condition. Did you know that it's now sold out on some websites that carry the drug?

Part of the problem is, there are no warnings about how the drug should be used and the old marketing language is still up, likely misleading people:

Thanks to Trump, people are going to be injured or even die from using something that he has been hyping. Welcome to the Idiocracy.

America Faces a Shortage of Hospital Beds

As news filters in about the use of the Army Corps of Engineers to build out the capacity for more hospital beds in regions that are likely to face shortages, it's worth noting that we have tremendous shortages all over the country:
In most scenarios, “vast communities in America are not prepared to take care of the COVID-19 patients showing up,” said Dr. Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute, who led a team of researchers that developed the analysis.
Under the researchers’ best-case scenario, Americans will act quickly to slow the spread of the virus through social distancing, and the infection rate among adults will remain relatively low at 20%, or 49.4 million people over the age of 18, less than twice the number of people who get the flu each year.
We're talking about the entire country:
For hospitals with fewer resources, there are measures that can be taken to counter bed shortages. Hospitals can limit elective surgeries and discharge healthier patients earlier. Hospitals can also screen patients before they enter the hospital to decrease the risk of spreading the disease. Critically, staffers also need to stay healthy, so they can continue to treat patients instead of taking up the needed beds themselves.
The experts and health workers that ProPublica spoke with fear that the U.S. is only two weeks behind Italy’s infection rate and will be faced with the same tough decisions. A paper published in the Lancet last week highlighted Italy’s Lombardy region, where a flood of patients is overwhelming the intensive care system.
“I can't imagine being in that position, and none of us want to be in that position,” said UCSF’s Raven. “The reality is that you can't create unlimited hospital beds and ventilators. We have what we have, so we really have to hope that it's enough, and that we're prepared enough.”
When all of this is over, we should plan accordingly and fund efforts to expand our capacity to deal with the next pandemic or natural disaster.

The Last Days of Pompeii

The Trump Regime is the city of Pompeii. Coronavirus is Mt. Vesuvius.

There, I said it.

What Deadly Weather Can Do

The Nashville area has been devastated by a tornado:
The storms left numerous homes and other buildings in ruins across several counties, and left tens of thousands of people without power and hundreds at least temporarily looking for another place to live.

In Nashville, 48 buildings collapsed, others were damaged and about 150 people have been taken to hospitals because of the storm, Mayor John Cooper said.

In Nashville's Germantown area alone, parts of apartment and other multi-story buildings were ripped open, with bricks, roofing material and glass strewn about, images from CNN affiliate WTVF show.

"As tragic as this is -- and our hearts are broken -- we are certain that we'll surround these folks and we'll do what is necessary" to recover, Gov. Bill Lee said.
Incidents like this make me wonder if people really understand the link between funding for first responders, keeping hospitals in business, and whether we have the capacity to deal with natural disasters. The impact of coronavirus is about to be felt in every region of the country--hospitals are going to be inundated with patients on respirators if this thing blows up.

Now add to that the impact of a single tornado sending 150 people to the hospital. Are we prepared for such a thing? What happens when it affects an area where the local hospital has been shut down or when a state has enacted draconian budget cuts to disaster relief?

We currently don't have much of a functioning Federal response to anything right now. Their response to coronavirus has engendered panic. Add to that the Trump regime's horrible response to any natural disaster--flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes and the like--and you have all the makings for a mass panic and unnecessary fatalities.

This is Obama's Fault, Too

Nina Pham didn't get the memo.

She wasn't supposed to survive the Ebola virus and end up being declared free of it. She was supposed to be the face of the Republican Party's concerted effort to say stupid things about the Ebola virus and scare the hell out of everyone.

Now that a healthy young person has survived it, how is the Republican Party supposed to gain seats in November and take control of the Senate?

I mean, as long as we're in a tizzy, let's take it up a notch and do things like this:

NYC Ebola Patient Dr. Craig Spencer Had 100.3 Fever, Not 103

The New York City doctor who tested positive for Ebola had a fever of 100.3 degrees, not 103 degrees, as was first reported, health officials said Friday.
Dr. Mary Travis Bassett, the city health commissioner, gave the new figure on “Morning Joe” on MSNBC. Dr. Craig Spencer, who had treated Ebola patients in the West African country of Guinea, was rushed to a New York hospital and isolated after he reported the fever. He later tested positive for the virus.

Aaaah! Aaaah! Cue the ghost of Sam Kinison and his endless screaming.

Shouldn't Pham have put her country first and told everyone that she had a fever of 108 like she was supposed to? How do you think this makes the fear mongers feel?

No one takes a minute to think about them, do they? This is the sort of thing that can ruin your weekend.

Good for Nina Pham, but, really, this is all about how President Obama wants everyone to die from Ebola. She should have gone with the prevailing media narrative and not fought against the virus. We simply cannot have the idea that, yeah, you can SURVIVE having EBOLA get out there. Someone might start thinking that Obama isn't entirely to blame for everything anymore.

Everything Will Kill You

We are the most panicky people on the face of the Earth. What happened to being resilient or tough? What happened to not giving a shit? What happened to context and actually having useful information?

I don't know about you, but lightning is way worse than Ebola:

If we treated the flu like we have treated Ebola, we'd have lost our mud long ago:

The number of seasonal influenza-associated (i.e., seasonal flu-related) deaths varies from year to year because flu seasons are unpredictable and often fluctuate in length and severity. Therefore, a single estimate cannot be used to summarize influenza-associated deaths. Instead, a range of estimated deaths is a better way to represent the variability and unpredictability of flu. An August 27, 2010 MMWR report entitled “Thompson MG et al. Updated Estimates of Mortality Associated with Seasonal Influenza through the 2006-2007 Influenza Season. MMWR 2010; 59(33): 1057-1062.," provides updated estimates of the range of flu-associated deaths that occurred in the United States during the three decades prior to 2007. CDC estimates that from the 1976-1977 season to the 2006-2007 flu season, flu-associated deaths ranged from a low of about 3,000 to a high of about 49,000 people. Death certificate data and weekly influenza virus surveillance information was used to estimate how many flu-related deaths occurred among people whose underlying cause of death was listed as respiratory or circulatory disease on their death certificate.

And I'm not even going to go into car accidents, cancer, or being near someone with a gun. Good grief. We're the wimpiest of wimps nowadays.

Vaccinations and the Wealthy

I took this shot a few weeks ago when visiting the Tyson's Corner mall. This advertisement was prominently displayed and targeted at the wealthy patrons of one of the most high-end malls on the East Coast.

There are probably nicer malls and malls with more elite clientele, but you would have a hard time outclassing Tyson's Corner. This ad wasn't directed at anyone who doesn't already make a comfortable living, by the way. Given the rules for public schools and the improved access to medical care (thanks to Obamacare and other reforms), those who make less money have more of an incentive and opportunity to vaccinate their children. America still lags behind much of the world, of course. Immigrant children from Guatemala are more likely to be vaccinated against disease than children from Texas.

This sign had me wondering--are we ever going to reach wealthier people who insist on avoiding immunizations against disease? Have we lost the Whole Foods crowd entirely, despite the science and the need for common sense?

If you're seeing mall ads like this one, then we have lost too many people to the idea that they do not need to participate in the betterment of society. Their status has isolated them from the economic and social realities of modern life. I don't think they are reachable anymore--the idea that parents know what is best for their kids, and that their kids are somehow "too good" for the same immunizations given to "regular" children is an idea like racism. No matter how hard you try, you're not going to convince people that they're not special.

Anyway, I think these ads are useless. Far too many people have caught on to the belief that they are wealthy because they are special and thus do not need to do what everyone else has done. We are looking at a future where fighting diseases that we nearly wiped out is going to look like a bad science fiction movie.

Remember When Conservatives Wanted Latin American Kids to Come Here?

I remember when there was a kid named Elian Gonzalez, and I remember when he came here as an illegal immigrant. I remember how conservatives railed against the rule of law, which forced him to go back to Cuba to live with his communist relatives. They didn't scream at him and tell him to go. They hid him in a closet and tried to keep the government from sending him back to where he came from. I remember how they went crazy and hated the government and ignored the actual laws and wanted him to stay so he could live a better life in this country.

What happened?

Oh, yeah. That's right. Instead of Cuba, the new wave of little kids comes from Central America where they are fleeing the predators in violent gangs, and where they are trying to get away from narco-terrorists. And not only are they not coming here to seek freedom, they're bringing their diseases with them, right?

Except that they're not:

With thousands of children from Central America arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, an old plague is once again sweeping the country—the fear of the diseased immigrant.

“Our schools cannot handle this influx, we don’t even know what all diseases they have,” U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX)said recently. “Our health care systems can’t withstand this influx.” [Except that they can, thanks to Obamacare]

Fox News commentator Cal Thomas asks, for example, if “the unaccompanied minors pouring over the border…have brought with them proof of vaccination?” Thomas accuses the border-crossers of harboring vaccine-preventable diseases such as “mumps, measles, rubella, polio, tetanus and diphtheria.”

Before demonizing undocumented children, we should look at the facts: The vast majority of Central Americans are vaccinated against all these diseases. Governments concerned about health, and good parents investing in their kids, have made Central American kids better-vaccinated than Texan kids. We fear them not because they are actually sick, but because of powerful anti-immigration narratives that link foreigners to disease.

Consider, for example, Guatemala. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Guatemalan kids are more likely than Texans to be immunized for most infectious diseases. Guatemala has universal health care. Vaccines are 100 percent funded by the government.

By comparison, one in six kids in Texas is uninsured, and even insured families often must pay for vaccination. That means that many Texas kids fall behind on vaccinations, or miss them altogether when their family can’t afford a doctor’s visit. Other families refuse vaccination.

Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet, a Fox News commentator and former director of the ultra-conservative political group Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, writes in the McAllen Monitor that measles is among the “diseases the United States had controlled or virtually eradicated” that are “carried across the border by this tsunami of illegals.”

Fact check: UNICEF reports that 93 percent of kids in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador are vaccinated against measles. That’s better than American kids (92 percent).

Oh, but American Exceptionalism and They're Going to Take All the Jobs and They're Going to Get Welfare Checks All Day Long. The bullshit gets so thick you can't even stand looking at a computer half the time. Thanks again, Jenny McCarthy.

Good God.

You mean that Texas is now a third world country run by lunatics? Again, this happens? And that means it's time for the citizens of Texas to vote in another Republican who will continue to destroy the environment, the education system, and give handouts to corporations? Again?

I guess so.

Somewhere in Cuba a young man is grateful he didn't end up living in a Florida subdivision where you can shot for walking around with Skittles. And he's probably thrilled he didn't end up in Texas, either.

This is Why They Want to Impeach the President

The wholesale destruction of America continues, unabated. Soon, there will be a time when Americans have health care insurance and coverage for their families. Once that happens, America will turn into Thunderdome and we will all be driving cars that have no gas. Do you have four camels lying around who can pull the thing? I don't. But, thanks to Obamacare, now I have to find extra shotgun shells, a water purification system, a Geiger counter, and four freakin' camels because we're all headed for a post-apocalyptic hellsphere, fights to the death optional.

And while we all look for feathers and castoff shoulder pads, let's remember one salient fact--Obamacare was the devil. It was supposed to rip the fabric of American life to pieces and leave nothing but horror and destruction in it's wake. It was supposed to give rise to a thousand Hitlers and burn everything to the ground. If you've been listening to the clowns on the right, you would think that socialism was really, really bad or something. So far, it's looking pretty good.

The Republican Party now has to impeach Obama in order to offset the success of Obamacare. They have tried, dozens of times, to legislate it out of existence. Now that we know it works, they have to do something to head off the damage it is causing to their ideology, not the country. We have been cursed to live in an interesting time--government actually works? Really? Why don't we try having a little more of it, then?

Joe Scarborough, Meet Ted Yoho

Dumbassery abounds:

Speaking at a town hall meeting earlier this month, Florida Republican congressman Ted Yoho promised that he would support possible birther legislation floated by Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX), telling the audience that after learning about a potential birther bill from Stockman while attending a Tea Party meeting, he called the congressman and agreed to back it.

Yoho also seemed to embrace the right-wing claim that Obamacare is “racist” because it taxes tanning beds, explaining that if he goes tanning then he will be “disenfranchised because I got taxed because of the color of my skin.”

I had a little fun with [John] Boehner and told him about the sun tanning tax. He goes, ‘I didn’t know it was in there,’ and I said, ‘Yes, it’s a ten percent tax.’ He goes, ‘Well, that’s not that big of a deal.’ I said, ‘It’s a racist tax.’ He goes, ‘You know what, it is.’ I had an Indian doctor in our office the other day, very dark skin, with two non-dark skin people, and I asked this to him, I said, ‘Have you ever been to a tanning booth?’ and he goes, ‘No, no need.’ So therefore it’s a racist tax and I thought I might need to get to a sun tanning booth so I can come out and say I’ve been disenfranchised because I got taxed because of the color of my skin. As crazy as that sounds, that’s what the left does right. By God, if it works for them, it’ll work for us [inaudible].

Seriously. The Brass Balls on these people...

Take the Money and Run

I think it would be fair to say that an accountability moment and a firm reality check has arrived for everyone who said that Obamacare is the devil that will soshalism this country into the hands of the Kraken.

When given the option to stand behind their principles and continue destroying the lives of people who need the health care provisions of the PPACA, Republicans governors are taking the money that's on the table and they're lying about it. Mike Pence of Indiana is lying when he denies folding in the face of a Medicare benefit that the people of Indiana desperately need. He should go into each and every election from now on wearing an Obama sticker on his nose so that people remember how he gave in to the commies and allowed the Hoosiers to horn in on those Federal dollars.

We heard this time and again--Obamacare will destroy America. That was absolute bullshit, of course. And you would think that future elections would hinge on that but they won't. Without a viable, working media to hold them accountable, the Mike Pences of the GOP will be claiming Obamacare was Romneycare all along and they'll claim it as their own.

Only Sarah Palin Can Save America From Obamacare

Someone has to save us from Obamacare because it's working:

“Evan knows Obamacare is a mess,” said an ad from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which blamed the law for lost jobs, dropped coverage and high premiums. An ad from the group Americans for Prosperity, backed by the conservative billionaires David H. and Charles G. Koch, denounced Mr. Rahall for supporting the law, saying it was “going to hurt a lot of people.”

Many professionals here dispute such claims. “It’s working, and you can show it’s working,” Dr. Becker said.

He and other health care advocates call West Virginia a national success story in terms of the Affordable Care Act’s expansion of Medicaid to more of the working poor. While 24 states have refused to expand Medicaid to those earning up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level, or $23,850 for a family of four, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, a Democrat, decided over Republican objections that the state — with a population older and sicker than the national average — would do so.

Nationwide, more people have signed up for private plans than for Medicaid, but the results are the opposite in West Virginia, where about 15 percent of residents — 270,000 of 1.8 million — lacked insurance when the law took effect. Initial sign-ups for Medicaid, about 115,000 since Oct. 1, are nearly double what actuaries projected, and roughly five times the number of people believed to have bought private plans from the one insurer in West Virginia’s marketplace, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. An estimated 20,000 to 25,000 people enrolled in private coverage, fewer than predicted.

When she's not baptizing terrorists, perhaps President Palin can end Obamacare and make it so the American people can be free. It is worth noting (nothing?) that John McCain and Palin won West Virginia by 13 points in 2008. At this rate, West Virginia will vote for a Democrat when Hell's frozen over, thanks to the efforts of Republicans who cannot help but to trash each and every government program that is actually a success.

This thing called Affordable Care Act cannot be allowed to succeed. This represents a massive shift in public policy that won't be undone, ever, because it will eliminate the conservative argument against carrying out complex reforms that help the American people. Sarah Palin is the only person dumb enough to win the Presidency and then convince people to stop Obamacare. When she wins in 2016, all your futures will belong to her and so will your healthcare exchange card.

A Criminal Conspiracy Within the VA Medical System

Horrible:

At least 40 U.S. veterans died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system, many of whom were placed on a secret waiting list.

The secret list was part of an elaborate scheme designed by Veterans Affairs managers in Phoenix who were trying to hide that 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor, according to a recently retired top VA doctor and several high-level sources

How hard is it to be accountable for what's going on? If you're the person in charge of the VA hospital, you raise your hand and say, "we're in trouble and we need help." That doesn't mean that VA in Washington D.C. has to fire that person--just the opposite. It means that resources have to be allocated to help keep veterans alive.

Instead, we have a criminal conspiracy to destroy evidence and hide the problem. The cover-up is worse than the crime, right? No, the crime was that forty veterans died because a handful of people put their careers ahead of what was right and let them die.

How much do you want to bet that monetary bonuses have landed in the checking accounts of everyone involved on a regular basis for years? How much would you put down against the chance that the management was paid exorbitant salaries for years while this went on?

Tell me again why Eric Shinseki still has a job. The VA leadership should be flushed completely out of the system and replaced with people who care and who can be accountable. Not just at his level--immediately below it as well. Whoever supervises the VA hospital system should be cleaning out their office right this minute. The VA cannot tolerate a continuation of failure. And it should seek out people who actually deal with and solve problems like adults. Shredding evidence? What is this, Wall Street? No, it's the VA medical system. People die when careerism takes over.

Your Modern Republican Party

Erick Erickson on Hillary Clinton:

While guest hosting Rush Limbaugh’s radio show on Tuesday, conservative pundit and Fox News contributor Erick Erickson offered what may ultimately be a preview of what we can expect to hear from the right if Hillary Clinton decides to run for president in 2016.

“I’m willing to admit I’m in the minority,” Erickson said. “I’m willing to admit I could very well be wrong; all of my Democratic friends are salivating [at the prospect of her running in 2016].”

Yet despite his Democratic friends’ saliva, Erickson said he wasn’t buying the idea that Clinton holds the advantage for 2016.

“She’s going to be old!” Erickson noted. “I don’t know how far back they can pull her face!” he added.

Here, you can clearly see that the Republicans have all of the ideas, all of the substance, and a heck of a good opening line for women voters.  With an outreach and a rebranding effort like this, the Democrats will be lucky to win only 40 states in 2016. These guys have ten--ten!--states locked up already for maybe--maybe--a hundred electoral college votes.

Damn, it's going to be a rough ride ahead. How do you counter such a physically gifted, fit, handsome, healthy young man and all of his skills and abilities?

You don't! You just pray that you can survive, I guess.

Herbalife Has Always Been a Ponzi Scheme

Whoa, now you tell me:

The FBI is investigating Herbalife Ltd., the nutrition and weight loss company that hedge fund manager William Ackman has called a pyramid scheme, sources familiar with the investigation said Friday.

The news, first reported by the Financial Times, sent the company's stock price down nearly 14 percent.

My first exposure to Herbalife came 25 years ago. We had relatives who used it and sold it. At one point, they suggested it as a replacement for actual cancer fighting medications.

Yes, as a replacement.

In any event, Herbalife is no different than Amway or whatever crap you get roped into selling. It's always been a Ponzi scheme. If it wasn't a Ponzi scheme, it wouldn't have distributors and sellers and people GODDAMNED DESPERATE to get you to buy it so they can climb one rung higher and breathe a little easier before the whole thing crashes down around them.

It's basically just repackaged edible bullshit. That's all. At this rate, it'll be 2089 before the FBI figures out that Scientology is a cult.

Way to Go, Dumbasses

There's a company in Toronto you don't want to work for.

It's something called askfortask.com and it recently experimented with using a nap room to help their overworked employees cope with being exhausted at work. When they discovered that their exhausted employees were actually, um, exhausted, they call the idea a failure.

News flash--tired people are tired because they're either overworked or don't have any life skills. Which one would you choose if you knew that this company was working people 70 hours a week? And why are we still having a debate over the wisdom of treating people like human beings and respecting their work-life balance? If you treat the people who work for you like cattle, they're going to sabotage your company and leave. Fast.

Run, don't walk away from these Canadians.
