You Gotta Be Kidding Me

I find this to be a game-changing accusation, one worthy of figuring out. The implications of Trump being positive for COVID-19 and then exposing himself to other people is bad enough. We are at a point where he is hospitalized and his doctors and his handlers are frantically correcting one another, trying to establish a narrative that has no credibility. None of them are credible at all.

Trump exposed himself to his political opponent. He endangered Joe Biden's life as well as the lives of everyone around him. He exposed his own family to COVID-19. That's not just his erstwhile wife and his adult children and their spouses. He exposed his own juvenile son and his grandchildren to COVID-19 as well. He exposed everyone who works to keep him safe and secure and well fed and comfortable.

What a fucking disgrace.

There are reports that Trump's secret service detail is angry. For what has to be the first time in over 20 years, the protective detail around the president is not leaking information and betraying the trust instilled in them. Look at the parade of disgraceful agents, beginning with Dan Bongino. Where are they when it is long past time to start talking about how unfit for office Trump really is and why have they been silent for so long.

The entire Executive Branch is a betrayal of the American idea. All of the cabinet officers must get together and decide whether or not they are going to put the Constitution first or their own short-term interests. There is no reason to even consider keeping Trump in office. They should meet, they should vote on whether or not to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump, and they should let Mike Pence be president until January 20, 2021. We already know that if there's a free and fair election, Joe Biden is going to win anyway.

Why continue with this debacle?

A Senate Full of Nuts

Are you prepared for the crazies to be in charge of the Congress? You'd better get ready.

As I said before, the fact that Joni Ernst is speaking like an unhinged crazy person will not hurt her one bit with the voters of Iowa. They have checked out. Thirty years ago, she would have been laughed off of the stage, lucky to get 5% of the vote. Now she's well on her way to being Senator Ernst, gun nut and testicle remover.

A statement along the lines of using a gun to defend herself against her own government--that old trope from G. Gordon Liddy where you go for a head shot when ATF agents enter your home--used to mean you weren't leadership material. Now, in Iowa, it means you get to act like Yosemite Sam, only crazier.

If you want to know what's wrong with this country, look at Iowa for a change. It is a highly educated state where the pride and joy of most families is to send their daughter off to a liberal arts college and their son off to receive a Bachelor's Degree in agricultural science (or vice versa, since women have always been our best farmers, by far). It used to be that walking around with a bleary-eyed hankering for guns would be seen as a firm negative and proof that the candidate doesn't have control over their emotions and has no regard for public safety.

There's no need for gun control in a place like Iowa. Everyone there should be free to own guns. The thing that has gone off the rails is this belief that being an irresponsible gun owner is a positive in a leader.

Here's Your Sign

After being told not to, Ralph Colavita's campaign put a campaign sign in my front yard. I have reported him to the Howard County government officials who are charged with destroying these things. Expect updates throughout the year...

As I have said many times, campaign signs do not matter. What an idiot.

Stop Trying to Make Voter Fraud a Thing

There is no such thing as voter fraud:

Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz (R), one of the nation’s most enthusiastic voter suppressors, released a report on Thursday outlining the results a two-year investigation into possible voter fraud, conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) at his request. But while Schultz has frequently scared Iowa voters with allegations of thousands of possible non-citizens voting in the state and living people showing up at the polls to cast ballots in the name of dead voters, the investigation revealed found an infinitesimal number of illegal votes cast and zero cases of impersonation at the polls.

Since his election in 2010, Schultz has been a staunch advocate for a strict voter ID law in Iowa, though his efforts to require one have stalled in the Democratic-controlled Iowa Senate. Last year he told supporters that in order to get conservative policies on “abortion, gay marriage, a whole lot of social issues that we care deeply about,” they must “start caring about voter ID and election integrity as well.” Without voter ID, he told them, “you’ll never be able to make a difference in any other issue you care about. Never. Because they will cheat! They’ll cheat.”

It is the obligation of the media to explain why the Republican Party is obsessed with voter fraud. As a primer, let me explain why they don't want people to vote:

When a lot of people vote, they don't vote for Republicans.

This is especially true for anyone who is not old and white and watches Fox News, although, as we have seen, if they are a veteran or if they have a foreign-looking name, there's a good chance someone is going to make an ass of themselves challenging their right to vote.

Is the pursuit of voter fraud simple vote suppression? Absolutely. And it is as racist as hell. You'd think that the media would have a way to tell that story or a moral obligation to try. I'll bet if you tied up voter suppression and put it on a plane that disappeared one day, there'd be more attention paid to it. If it was a blonde, white female that had gone missing, you'd know more about it. Maybe--just maybe--voter suppression needs to have its ass kicked by its own sister-in-law. Then, and only then, will we see some exposure for this issue.

Michael Grimm Indicted on 20 Federal Criminal Charges

Michael Grimm, New York Congressman, indicted on 20 federal criminal charges | WJLA.com

Bear in mind, Michael Grimm threatened a reporter earlier this year with physical violence and was once an FBI agent. In other words, he's your typical politician of the week. The law is an inconvenience to these people.
